Description

Being a member of a nonprofit Board can be daunting.

This hands-on workshop is designed to help new and existing board members, senior managers, and staff from organizations of all sizes to understand the infrastructure necessary to have a high functioning board. It will focus on three specific areas:

1) Whom do you recruit to your board? The process begins with identifying what skills and expertise are needed, then establishing a procedure for selecting potential board members, and establishing clear expectations from the very first interaction.

2) What are the most important responsibilities of the board? Do board members really have to do fundraising? How do they learn what to do? What does that monitoring and approving the finances of the organization really mean?

3) How do you conduct the business of the board? The meetings, even monthly ones, seldom provide enough time to delve into issues and perform due diligence. The most productive boards have an effective committee structure and use those committees to accomplish a significant amount of the work.
